The Why of Lower Lights

This blog has been on my mind for a few months now and I believe today is the day to take the Spirit's advice and become a lower light.
The name of this blog is Becoming a Lower Light. This title comes from the song Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy. This song tells the story that though our Father's mercy shines like a light house to return us to port, we need a lower light that lines up with the light house to actually get us to shore. Making it through this life can at times feel very overwhelming and our Father in Heaven can feel very far away, we might sometimes feel like He is so very far away and we don't know where to turn. In those moments we need a lower light to help us reconnect with thought patterns and choices that once more turn us to the Light House of our Father.
In this journey called life I have found that it can be hard to be a lower light when I myself feel in turmoil, it is hard to turn others to their Father and to their Savior when I am not in a place where I feel particularly close to them either. My life has changed a lot in the last three years. I have seen moments of amazing light and insight and moments of intense darkness and heart break. It reached a point a few months ago that I didn't see how I could keep going unless something gave. I really wanted my circumstances to be the thing that gave. But the more I wanted that the more I felt darkness creeping into my heart, as well as anger and frustration that nothing was changing. I finally came to the point that it didn't matter if my circumstances changed I had to change or I wouldn't make it. Since that time I have had many opportunities to learn techniques to change how I viewed my circumstances and helped me to finally see what was there all along, the blessings that made the circumstances worth it. Within this blog I hope to share some of those techniques and I believe they will also help you see the gifts and not just the disappointments in your life. In seeing the gifts and blessings, in learning to manage our emotions, instead of having them manage us, we learn how to be a lower light, even in the midst of a storm. I hope we will all choose to be a light in a world so much in need of light.
This blog is an effort of myself and some friends to help us with the tools and encouragement we need to better position ourselves and prepare ourselves to be the Lower Light our Father needs us to be. I hope that you will join us on this journey as we all work together to be a light to a world that seems so determined for turmoil. We hope to post on this site twice a week so stay tuned for our first installment sharing light and helping each of us to become a light.
This video beautifully explains the need for lower lights.
